With today being our first official brushless trial day, I was armed with an infra red thermometer. My superstock was coming off the track after 20 laps at around 68-70 deg, which is perfect. What frightened me was my streetstock. The outer case was about 75 deg, but if you poked the thermometer at the holes in the casing of the motor, it was too hot to read. the thermometer stops at 105, and it obvioulsly was hotter than that! No wonder they smell funny! The other races were the same result.

Makes me wonder what the inside temp of the brushless would be...

Shouldn't be too hot. The armature is a rotating magnet, so there is no friction compared with the commutator in a brushed system.
